Antietam Battlefield was visited by my family earlier this month. You can feel the history in the place. 27000 soldiers died in this square mile of land. It was the bloodiest single day of fighting in the entire war. You can practically hear the cries of the wounded and feel the silence of the dead. I wonder what they thought they were dying for? What made them take up arms against their own countrymen and fight in their own backyards? What could make me do such a thing?I wonder....
